It is easy to stack everything onto your shelves and end up creating a space that is disorganised and unappealing to look at. When organised right, your shelving can serve as display units and will provide an aesthetic feature to your home. It is a great way to update your home without spending to much time, energy, or money on something.

Start off by giving your shelves a Spring clean. Take everything off the shelves, dust them down and take a look at what you have accumulated that you don’t need and donate or throw it all away.

The next thing to do is choose a theme. You may want to match each shelving unit to the style in each room. You may have a specific theme in your bedroom or living room that you want to follow through onto your units while your hallways may be a lot more neutral, giving you more options of what to create and add to you shelves.

If you’re giving your shelves a makeover for the Spring season, you could choose bright yellows and oranges or pastel blues and purples.

Place some word signs onto your units to make your guests feel welcome. Putting something simple like ‘Welcome’ on floating shelves in your hallway or ‘Joy’ in a bookcase in the living room will build a level of comfort for others. If you plan on placing several signs onto one set of shelves, make sure to stagger them instead of lining them all up. You don’t want everything on your shelves to be symmetrical.

Add photo frames with family and friends onto your display cabinets and show off your loved ones. Frames are a perfect way to showcase your favourite photos and memories, but you could also set photo albums on your shelves for guests to flick through or for you to look at and reminisce on.

Plants are a must have on your shelving units and whether you choose real or fake ones is up to you. Examples of Spring flowering plants are pansies, daffodils, crocuses, fruit tree blossoms, hyacinths, tulips, and lilac. Succulents are great Spring plants that don’t need much care. They do not need much water and just some sunshine. Of course, if that still doesn’t align with your schedule or lifestyle, fake plants still add brightness and colour to your display.

Make sure you don't add too much to your shelves. Keep about a third of the space free to avoid a cramped look. If you are adding books to your shelves, stack a few of them differently - leave some vertical and some horizontal. This avoids too much of a symmetrical look and the you can stack other objects on top of the horizontal books.

Take a step back and take a look at your display units. Make sure you're happy with the interior that you have created and remember that you can rearrange your shelves at any time and any season.
